So here’s the deal:
I’ve been a lot of things in my life. I’ve been a dishwasher, a soldier, a journalist, a photographer, a security guard and a comedian. Ok, I’ve been six things, but since I was 15-years-old all I really wanted to do was write fiction. Today I turn 31, and while I’ve written a fair amount, I’ve done very little to get my work out in front of other human beings. With this blog I’m going to change that.
Sure I could send my stories out to literary magazines or agents and hope they don’t get drowned out among thousands upon thousands of submissions, but frankly that takes a long time and I’ve always been a punk rock kid at heart, so I’d rather do it myself. With that in mind, I’m going to post a new short story here every month for the next year.
It’s going to be a challenge, and I might lose my mind by March, but if I don’t set challenging goals for myself I’m just going to get bored and quit anyway. In the weeks between stories I’ll pop in now and again with short posts like this one to give updates on how the project is going and share some of the lessons I learn along the way. I hope you take the time to check out my work, and if you like it, I hope you’ll share it with a friend.
My first piece “Death Waits for One Woman” will drop Monday, January 7. It’s fun little tale about the grim reaper, and if I may be so bold, it’s one of the best stories I’ve ever written.
Tell me what you think about it by email at mindfulofmadness@gmail.com or just tweet me @drewjokeringram
Cheers,
Andrew Ingram
